my 1st 1/2 half marathon!
city of oaks 1/2 marathon (cassandra, me, julie, jason)
This past weekend, I ran in my first ever 1/2 marathon. I’ve actually never even run a 5K before. I’ve been a casual runner for about a 2 years now, but only started training for the 1/2 a few weeks ago. I had some good friends to train with that really helped me when I was tired of training!
I think I learned a lot about myself during the training (and I learned a lot about running!) Here are a few things that I learned:
1. Having a committed running partner. You’ll need it when you are tired of running.
2. Start with a training plan and stick with it. It is next to impossible to measure progress if you are making it up as you go…
3. Get cool gear. It helps right? (seriously…good shoes make a huge difference)
4. Pay attention to nutrition/hydration. One thing I should have payed more attention to on race day…(I started cramping at mile 12, which never happened in training! I think it could have been avoided if I had hydrated better)
5. Run your pace. Get a watch and pay attention to your splits…not the people running around you!
What am I forgetting?
