Way.Back.Wednesday.
Welcome to another installment of WayBackWednesday. More information that you didn’t know that you didn’t know…(think about it, I didn’t type that twice on accident). Here we go:
- 1790 :: Joseph Guillotine proposed a “more humane” way of execution.
- 1903 :: Harry Houdini escaped from a police station in Amsterdam. (Ocean’s 12 anyone?)
- 1979 :: the Pittsburgh Steelers became the 1st team to win 3 Super Bowls
- 1998 :: Pres Clinton said…”I did not…
There it is. Just 4 this week. I’m sure there were some famous people born today. Maybe even you!

Traffic lights, those devices that control much of our driving life, were first installed in 1868 in London by J P Knight, a railway engineer. The light looked like the railway signals of the day, and had red and green gas lamps for use at night. The gas lantern was turned with a lever at its base so that the appropriate light faced traffic.
The down side to these lights? Manual operation, and potential of explosion, which it did, in 1869, injuring the pliceman who was operating it.
Electric traffic lights were a US invention, with multiple changtes occuring from 1912 on. (Thanks Wikipedia!)

Feb. 2009. The Pittsburgh Steelers became the first NFL team to win six Super Bowls. I know, a bit hasty. I wish Kurt Warner played backup for them. Then my loyalties wouldn’t be divided with the underdog sympathy.
